Description
General
The automatic gearbox is a four speed unit with electronic control of gear selection, shift quality and torque converter
lock-up. Selections on the selector lever assembly are transmitted to the gearbox by a selector cable. A gear position
switch on the gearbox transmits the gear selection to an Electronic Automatic Transmission (EAT) ECU, which
outputs the appropriate control signals to an electro-hydraulic valve block in the gearbox. A mode switch enables the
driver to change the control mode of the EAT ECU. The EAT ECU operates warning lamps in the instrument pack to
indicate the control mode and system status.
The gearbox features a pressure lubrication system and is cooled by pumping the lubricant through an oil cooler.

In addition to this it also has a manual mode when in lo range which locks up the converter in the selected gear for better control.

Torque converter lock-up
The EAT ECU energises the lock-up solenoid valve to engage the lock-up clutch. Lock-up clutch operation is dependent on throttle position, engine speed, operating mode and the range selected on the transfer box.

High range
Unique lock-up maps, similar to the shift maps, are incorporated in the economy and sport modes for all forward gears. Engagement and disengagement of the lock-up clutch is dependent on throttle position and engine speed.

Low range
To enhance off road control, particularly when manoeuvring at low speeds, torque converter lock-up does not occur when there is any degree of throttle opening. When the throttle is closed above a preset engine speed, the lock-up clutch engages to provide maximum engine braking.

Increased load/reduced torque compensation
To aid performance and driveability in the high range economy mode, the EAT ECU has three adaptive shift and lockup maps. These maps delay upshifts and torque converter lock-up similar to the sport mode if the inputs from the engine indicate:
- A sustained high load on the engine, such as occurs when the vehicle is ascending a steep gradient or towing a trailer.
- A lower than normal engine torque, such as occurs at altitude or high ambient temperatures.

The EAT ECU monitors the engine inputs and selects the most appropriate adaptive map for the prevailing conditions.

uit dat stukje blijkt dat de lockup in low gear alleen maar ingeschakeld is als geen gas gegeven wordt zodat je meer remkracht op de motor hebt bij afdalen... niet als je in het zand gas geeft om vooruit te komen dus

I'd love the part number for that one, I've just spent 2 hours looking for it in 3 versions of Microcat and the original Factory Parts Catalogue, unless of course you are referring to PFZ100010 or PFZ100011 fitted to the 4.0 V8 in all territories or PFZ000050 or PFZ000051 which were fitted to the 4.6 V8 in selected territories.

On that note the Td5 was never released in Gulf States either, the only major difference was the viscous fan and supplementary electric fan for the airco was upgraded along with the free flow front grille, Part Number DHB102660LML, which also has a fine mesh to reduce ingress of dust.

I prepped a Td5 D2 a couple of years ago for a trip from Amsterdam to South East India overland, we never bothered to upgrade the cooling system as it was within specification for the trip and during the whole of the trip there were no cooling issues either.

There are a lot of people out there willing to sell you "must haves" to "improve" your vehicle for expeditions that "you cannot do without" ... the only thing that they improve is the sellers bank balance, it's all bullsh*t

Bedankt Rob, zeker voor al het zoekwerk! :D Het is in ieder geval duidelijk: de D2 is capabel in het zand, en extra geld uitgeven is niet noodzakelijk gebleken. :)

brede banden met dicht profiel...dus geen muds is denk ik een van de betere upgrades die je er voor kunt doen

k heb het idd ook even nagezocht. de Saoedi spec, of Kalahari spec: http://www.landyonline.co.za/specs/kala ... covery.htm

Er word hier idd niet gesproken over een grotere koeler, die ik heb gezien was dan misschien een upgrade door de eigenaar?
